College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET)

History of CET

College of Engineering Trivandrum (popularly known as CET) is one of the oldest and purely merit based engineering colleges in India. Founded in 1939 by the Travancore king Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the college is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Maj T.H. Mathewman, a Britisher, was the first Principal. 


In 1960, the college was shifted to the present campus. Extending over 125 acres of land, it has one of the most spacious campuses in the country. Over the years, the intake of students increased and now eight full-fledged  departments offer bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs. The  college has around 4100 students and 350 teachers. In terms of class size and teacher: student ratio, it is one of the best colleges in the country.

National Ranking

In 2016, the college was ranked 28 in Top 100 Engineering Colleges in India.
